IEEE ICC 2009 were opened with a keynote speech from our General Chair Hamid Akhavan, CEO of T-Mobile International AG. Following this, Thomas Jurk, Saxony
State Minister for Economic Affairs and Labour, welcomed all attendees of the ICC 2009 and guests of Dresden, the capital city of Saxony State.
A panel discussion on "Innovation - Taking Advantage of Opportunities" then took place with leading business managers from the communications
industry.

Hamid Akhavan, CEO T-Mobile International AG
Hamid Akhavan, born in 1961, was appointed Member of the Board of Management of Deutsche Telekom responsible for the Mobile Communication
business area on December 5, 2006. Throughout the Deutsche Telekom Group, he is responsible for innovation and product development, as well
as technology, IT and procurement. Additionally, in his role as Chief Executive Officer of T-Mobile International AG, he leads the
management of the mobile communications companies in Western, Southern and Eastern Europe and also those European national companies that
are present in both the fixed and mobile communications areas. [full text]
Thomas Jurk, Saxony State Minister for Economic Affairs and Labour
Thomas Jurk, born in 1962 in Goerlitz, Saxony, has been appointed Saxony State Minister for Economic Affairs and Labour as well
as Deputy Prime Minister of Saxony in 2004. Furthermore, he is member of the German Social Democratic Party (SPD) since 1989, Chairman of
SPD in the Saxony State Assembly since 1998/99, and member of the Saxon SPD Executive Committee. [full text]
Plenary Panel "Innovation - Taking Advantage of Opportunities"
Topics for discussion did include the risks presented by new technologies, as well as the resulting benefits and efficiencies for customers
and operators. An additional area of focus were the trade-offs for customers with regard to cost, convenience and complexity.
